<div class="list">With Windows Server 2008's Server Core system, an error occurs when installing the printer driver. Although this occurs because certain system files required by the printer driver are not present in the Server Core system, if you reinstall the same printer driver for the same printer model, and select [Keep existing driver (recommended)] , the driver can be successfully installed. When installing to a WSD port, create a port as a Standard TCP/IP port for a web services device in the first installation, then select the created WSD port when installing for the second time. Note that, because color profiles are not installed with Server Core, printing at the server end may result in erroneous colors. Use this environment as a print server with client side rendering.</div>
<div class="text"></div>
<div class="list">When you overwrite update or uninstall the printer driver, the printer driver files may be locked by Windows so that you cannot update or uninstall them. To solve this problem, restart the computer, then update or delete the printer driver. For details, refer to Microsoft Support Article KB940523 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940523/).</div>

<div class="h5"><a id="1591dd7b22a00b95966d657b47f10a68"></a>Cautions, Limitations and Restrictions When Printing</div>
<div class="list">This printer driver is for printing from applications which use the XPS format for printing. Although it is possible to print from applications (including Microsoft Office 2007) developed for use with Windows versions prior to Windows Vista using Microsoft Vista's compatibility functions, printing may not be performed correctly due to problems arising from the compatibility functions.</div>
<div class="list">When continuously printing a document containing a large number of pages, an error message telling you that the print filter pipeline host has stopped operating may be displayed, and printing may be stopped. If this happens, wait awhile then try printing again.</div>
<div class="list">If you cancel printing when printing from an application, a temporary file may be left in the following folder. If the file is left in the folder after printing has stopped, delete it directly from the folder and restart Windows. At this time, an error message telling you that the print filter pipeline host has stopped operating may also be displayed.</div>
<div class="text_level3">%Systemroot%\System32\spool\PRINTERS</div>
<div class="list">If you select [Print directly to the printer] in [Advanced] in the printer properties dialog box, printing is disabled. This is a result of Windows specifications.</div>
<div class="list">The document image in the printer driver is fixed. It does not vary with changes in the print settings. Also, a stamp preview is not displayed.</div>
<div class="list">Nothing is printed in the area 5 mm inward from the top, bottom, left, and right edges of the paper. However, this area may be printed on, depending on the application. If this happens, set the top, bottom, left, and right margins in the application to 5 mm or more.</div>
<div class="list">Even if 5 mm has been specified for the margins in an application, images that are close to the margins may not be printed. Also, if the following settings are specified, images that are normally not cut off even when close to the margins may be cut off during printing.</div>
<div class="dash">[Main] sheet - [Page size] - [Details] - [Specify print ratio] setting</div>
<div class="dash">Settings other than [Match page size] for [Main] sheet - [Output size]</div>
<div class="dash">[Main] sheet - [Page layout] settings</div>
<div class="dash">[Main] sheet - [Binding location] - [Details] - [Reduce image] for [Process image to fit gutter]</div>
<div class="dash">[Main] sheet - [Booklet] settings</div>
<div class="list">If you are using Windows Server 2008/Server 2008 R2/8/Server 2012, the preview function ([Preview before print]) is unavailable under the default settings. Add this function by selecting [Administrative Tools] - [Server Manager] - [Add features] (or [Control Panel] - [Turn Windows features on or off]), and selecting [.NET Framework 3.0/3.5] and [XPS Viewer].</div>
<div class="list">The [Department ID Management] and [Secured Print] features are disabled in Windows Server 2008's Server Core system. The preview feature, which displays a preview before printing, is also disabled. In addition, the bitmap image of the device in the driver screen is not displayed. This is because the system files required by the printer driver are not present in the Server Core system.</div>
<div class="list">If you have added an Active Directory Domain Services server role to Windows Server 2008, printing fails when you attempt to print using the XPS Print Path printer driver. Similarly, printing fails when you attempt to print from a client computer with Windows Server 2008 as a print server. To solve this problem, change the print spool folder to a folder that has Local Service write permission.</div>
<div class="list">When using Point and Print (with a shared printer driver on a print server), if the user name and password registered in the print server and the log in user name and password of the computer you are using to print do not match, the printer driver does not operate correctly. In particular, [Department ID Management] and [Secured Print] printing are disabled. Although the user name and password already match and do not cause a problem in the domain environment, they must be made to match in the Workgroup environment.</div>
<div class="list">When using Point and Print (with a shared printer driver on a print server), you cannot install the printer driver on a Windows Server 2008 64-bit client computer if the print server is using a 32-bit version of Windows Vista or a 32-bit version of Windows Server 2008. If this situation occurs, perform a Point and Print installation using the Built-in-Administrator (a built-in account for administration purposes) of the client computer, or use a different edition of the operating system.</div>
<div class="list">In Point and Print (with a shared printer driver on a print server), if [Confirm the setting when printing] in [Secured Print] or [Confirm ID and password when printing] in [Department ID Management] is selected, but [Render print jobs on client computers] is not selected in [Sharing] in the printer properties dialog box (when server-side rendering is enabled), all print jobs from client computers connected to the shared printer will stop if the printing operation in one of them stops while the print dialog box is being displayed. In particular, if the Point and Print print server is using Windows Server 2008, or the print server is using a 32-bit operating system and the client computer a 64-bit operating system (or vice versa), print jobs will be canceled or dialog messages will be displayed on both the client computer and print server. If this happens, close the print dialog box in the client computer where printing has stopped, or select [Render print jobs on client computers].</div>
<div class="list">If you are using Point and Print (with a shared printer driver on a print server) and have logged onto the print server and client computer using the same user name, then attempt to print with [Confirm the setting when printing] in [Secured Print] or [Confirm ID and password when printing] in [Department ID Management] selected on the server side, a dialog box will be displayed on the monitor of the client computer. If this occurs, print with [Confirm the setting when printing] or [Confirm ID and password when printing] deselected.</div>
<div class="list">Immediately after installation of the printer driver (including upgrades), some applications may not be able to recognize that a printer driver has been installed, and operation errors such as print settings not being effective may occur. If this happens, exit and restart the application.</div>
<div class="list">If a document with an odd number of pages is printed from an application with two-sided printing selected, a blank page may be automatically inserted to adjust the number of pages to an even number, depending on the application. If this happens, the blank page inserted by the application is included in the page count.</div>
<div class="list">Regardless of whether a digital signature is or is not attached to an XPS file, or has been falsified, the printer driver will ignore this digital signature and print the file.</div>
<div class="list">When you set collating in the printer driver, if there is an application in which collating can be set, the collating setting of the application has priority. Even if you open the printer driver from the printers folder to specify the collating setting, the application setting has priority.<br />For example, a document output from Microsoft Word that uses settings that also exist in the printer driver, will be printed with the application's settings having priority over the printer driver settings. To give the printer driver settings priority over the application settings, select [Off] for [Collate] in [Apply the settings from applications] in the [Preferences] dialog box of the [Support] sheet.</div>
<div class="list">If you make this printer driver the default printer, or have changed the printer to this printer driver in an application, the mouse pointer may go into a standby state if you click the [OK] button in the [Device Settings] sheet, etc., and the wait time may be very long. This is an inherent limitation caused by the internal processing in this printer driver taking a significant amount of time.</div>
<div class="list">If the printer port is a WSD port, print jobs may remain in the print queue for a while after being printed if Windows Firewall is active. If you deactivate Windows Firewall, the print job is deleted from the print queue at the same time that the device finishes outputting the paper.</div>
<div class="list">With WSD plug and play, installation is cancelled because the installer cannot find the driver, etc. Thereafter, if you select the driver software update from [Control Panel] - [System and Maintenance] - [Device Manager] and install the printer driver, a printer is adding for which a port has not been selected. If this happens, delete the printer and reinstall it from the printers folder using [Add a printer].</div>
<div class="list">If you want to register a custom size paper in Windows Vista/Server 2008, display the printer properties dialog box from the printers folder, and click [Change Management] in the [Management] sheet to upgrade permissions.</div>
<div class="list">If you select [Turn Windows features on or off] under [Programs] in the [Control Panel], and deselect [XPS Viewer] under [Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0], the Preview feature, which displays a preview before printing, will be disabled. If this happens, and you select [Preview before print] in the [Main] sheet, an application error will occur, and the preview will not be displayed.</div>
<div class="list">When using the RemoteApp terminal service of Windows Server 2008, if [Confirm the setting when printing] is selected in [Secured Print] or [Confirm ID and password when printing]/[Confirm Department ID and PIN when printing] is selected in [Department ID Management], a dialog box for verifying the Department ID (ID) and PIN (password) will be displayed on the server when printing. If this happens, the printing process can be continued by closing the dialog box on the server.</div>
<div class="list">When you select [Control Panel] - [Ease of Access] - [Optimize visual display] - [Make the computer easier to see] - [Change the size of text and icons] - [Larger scale (120 DPI) - make text more readable] in the [DPI Scaling] dialog box (or when you select [Control Panel] - [Ease of Access] - [Optimize visual display] - [Make the computer easier to see] - [Change the size of text and icons] - [Medium - 125%] or [Large - 150%] in the [Display] dialog box), some lettering and controls in the printer driver may be cut off. Letters may be cut off in this way due to Windows preferences and fonts.</div>
<div class="list">You can use spaces, special characters, and long names when entering printer names during installation or when changing printer names in the printers folder. However, in applications, printer names that exceed 32 characters or use special characters may not be recognized, depending on the application. Also, when sharing printers, exceeding 32 characters or using special characters may result in unexpected problems.</div>
<div class="list">There may be cases where, if there is an object created in an application, streak-like lines may appear or the colors may change in the same object in the printed result. This is due to object attributes changing while data is being converted by Windows, and is an inherent limitation.</div>
<div class="list">There may be cases where, if there is an image created in an application, gaps may appear in the same image in the printed result. This is due to one image being separated into multiple images while data is being converted by Windows, and is an inherent limitation.</div>
<div class="list">When the printer driver is installed, paper names beginning with "CN_" are registered in [Forms] under [Server Properties] in the printers folder. These are necessary for the Windows printer driver module to operate, and will remain there even after the printer driver is deleted.</div>
<div class="text"></div>
<div class="list">When printing from an application in a 64-bit Windows system, the colors may differ slightly compared to when printing from an application in a 32-bit Windows system. You can prevent this problem by selecting [None] or [Driver] for [Application ICM settings] in [Troubleshooting].</div>
<div class="list">Where the application is provided with magnification settings, set the magnification in the printer driver to the same size as the original (100%), and set the desired magnification ratio from the application.</div>
<div class="list">When increasing or reducing the size of a document to fit the output paper size, the margins of output pages and posters may be larger than usual. Also, gutters are created for booklet printing even if you set them to 0 mm.</div>
<div class="list">If you set a magnification and [2 on 1] or [4 on 1] for [Page layout], there may be changes in the printed result such as streaks appearing in the printed result, due to errors between the magnification ratio and resolution.</div>
<div class="list">If you use the magnification function to reduce the print output, fine lines may appear uneven or broken, or may not be printed at all. If this happens, by changing the orientation of the paper stored in the paper source (e.g. from A4 to A4R), the document may be printed correctly.</div>
<div class="list">Depending on the application, there may be cases where lines drawn at an angle close to the horizontal cannot be printed correctly. If this happens, redraw the line as horizontal and reprint.</div>
<div class="list">If a character from the Unicode extended characters (U+E000 onward) is included in a character string specified as a watermark, the watermark characters are not printed.</div>
<div class="list">If you select [Collate] in the [Print] dialog box in Microsoft Excel, and print multiple copies or specify [Entire workbook] to print all worksheets with difference print settings, you may not get the desired print results for N-up, and 2-sided printing. Also, if you print using Department ID Management(Job Accounting), the confirmation dialog box may be displayed multiple times.</div>
<div class="list">If you are using Microsoft Excel, and you select [Entire workbook] in the print dialog box when printing, do so with the first worksheet selected. If you do so with a worksheet other than the first worksheet selected, settings related to page output, such as collating, may be disabled.</div>
<div class="list">In Microsoft Excel 2003, if you set the number of copies as 2 or more, the error message "The file could not be printed due to an error." maybe displayed. This is because an error has occurred in the Microsoft XPS Document Writer, which is Microsoft's XPS generating module, which this printer driver also uses. If this error occurs, it can be resolved by using Microsoft Excel 2007, or selecting [Preview before print] and printing one copy, then increasing the number of copies to be printed in the preview window.</div>
<div class="list">Depending on the application, a line whose width has been set at less than 1 point may be printed as a line of 1 point width.</div>
<div class="list">If data is saved with units set to inches, the data may not be saved correctly. This is because data is stored within the printer driver in microns (micrometers), which causes a rounding off error during unit conversion calculation.</div>
<div class="list">Although [Staple] can be selected when [Copies] is set to [1] and [Collate] is deselected, the output is not actually stapled. Because some applications such as Notepad are not set to [Collate] by default, [Collate] must be selected when [Copies] is set to [1] and [Staple] is selected. In order for application settings to not be affected by this, deselect [Collate] in [Apply the settings from applications] in the [Preferences] dialog box of the [Support] sheet.</div>
<div class="list">Where drawing data whose colors are transparent exist, the base colors of the transparent part may differ.</div>
<div class="text"></div>
<div class="list">In drawing data created in an application, where the start and end points of a curved line are the same, slight gaps may occur in the printed result due to errors.</div>
<div class="text"></div>
<div class="list">If you specify a paper such as envelope that can only be loaded from the multi-purpose tray, when the setup of the printer you are using does not allow you to use the multi-purpose tray, printing is stopped and an error message is displayed at the printer. If this happens, select a paper that can be loaded from a drawer.</div>
<div class="text"></div>
<div class="list">When you set [Control Panel] - [Appearance and Personalization] - [Personalization] - [Window Color and Appearance] - [Color Scheme] to [Windows Aero] in Windows Vista, you cannot close message boxes by clicking the close button (the "X" button in the upper right corner of the message box). This is a result of Windows specifications.</div>
<div class="list">In Windows Vista, printer driver installation cannot be stopped, and continues even if you click the cancel button during installation. This is a result of Windows specifications.</div>
<div class="text"></div>
<div class="list">In Microsoft Office 2010, when changing the print settings form the printer driver, the selections for [2-sided] and [Staple] in Microsoft Office 2010, which should be selectable, are not displayed or are grayed out and not selectable. This is because Microsoft Office 2010 controls the print settings when the application starts, or the printer settings when switching printers, so that these settings are not displayed or are grayed out. To solve this problem, close Microsoft Office 2010, change the default print settings in the printer driver from the printers folder, and restart Microsoft Office 2010.</div>
<div class="list">If you change the name of an account by clicking [Change your account name] in [User Accounts] in the [Control Panel], the setting for [Logon name] in the [User Name Settings] dialog box of the [Device Settings] sheet in the printer properties dialog box is not changed. This [Logon name] is linked to the user name in Windows and differs from the account name. The Windows user name is changed from [Computer Management] in [Administrative Tools] under [System and Maintenance] in the [Control Panel]. When using the computer in a domain environment, you must contact the system administrator.</div>
<div class="list">When using a WSD port, if you attempt to force printing with an incorrect ID and password while [Department ID Management] is active, the printer may stop and no longer print thereafter. You can resume printing by restarting the printer.</div>
<div class="text"></div>
<div class="list">You cannot communicate with the printer to perform dynamic color calibration with this printer driver. Therefore, if the printer becomes worn, it may not be able to print with the correct colors.</div>
<div class="list">If an image in a page is in RGB format, it will be counted as color data even if it is a black-and-white image.</div>
<div class="list">If you print data that includes text with large fonts, those fonts are drawn as graphic data and hence may differ from other text within the data in terms of color etc.</div>
<div class="text"></div>
<div class="list">If a paper size that supports 2-sided printing (e.g A4) and a paper size that does not support 2-sided printing (e.g. envelope) are both contained within a single document, the assigned gutter position on the front and back of the paper may differ. In this case, print those pages that support 2-sided printing and those that do not separately.</div>
<div class="list">When printing with an application while the secured print, Department ID Management, or store in mail box confirmation dialog box is displayed from another print job, the job prints without the confirmation dialog box for the new print job being displayed. When printing from the XPS driver, due to Windows restrictions, multiple dialog boxes cannot be displayed at the same time.</div>
